LAWSON is the Cove Gallery’s featured “Artist of the Month” for November 2017

About the Artist

When painting, I am not “Creator”. I am simply the space where creation shows up. I paint under the assumed name Lawson in an attempt to further remove ego from the equation.

To paraphrase Eckhart Tolle “All Creativity comes out of inner spaciousness.” Once the Creation has happened and something has come into form, I have to be vigilant so that the notion of me or mine does not arise. If I take credit for what I accomplish, the ego has returned, and the spaciousness has become obscured.

I am in love with the process of Creation, but sometimes I forget and attempt to produce a result for the observer. That is why the Art Gods created erasers and sandpaper!

Because my inspiration does not come out of my own devices, all of my work is one of a kind. The observer will not find a recognizable style.

My sole desire is that these expressions resonate with the soul of the observer and the piece becomes theirs to enjoy.

Come meet LAWSON in person at the November Laguna First Thursday Art Walk Reception on Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 6 – 9 pm in the Cove Gallery.

The New Cove Gallery is directly across PCH from the front entrance to the Surf & Sand Resort at 1550 South Coast Highway, and next door to Vertigo Home, in the historic Granada Building.

(Just ½ block south of our old location in the Art Center!”)

Patrick Kelly

October 25- January 22

The Festival of Arts is proud to present, Patrick Kelly, a well known and established art figure in the art culture, both locally and throughout the United States. A world traveler, Patrick began exhibiting at the Festival in the 1960’s and has participated in many areas of development for programs at the Festival of Arts.

It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to organize an exhibit of Patrick Kelly’s artwork. His ability to explore creative possibilities seems unlimited. With these works, both the engaging compositional designs and color applications are skillfully combined with a personalization of the image, resulting in stimulating compositions.

Our feature Artist this month is local Laguna artist, Isaac Anderson

BIO
Born outside of Seattle in the 70s, to a father with a glass blowing skills and state championship archery accolades, and to a mother with a wonderfully creative mind and darkroom equipment—the sky was the limit.   Twenty years later, on an international flight (studying abroad  in England), armed with his grandfather’s 35mm Minolta and the original owner’s manual, Isaac’s passion for photography was birthed.  This developed and broadened into documentary filmmaking, which opened the doors for travel to some very unique and textured places, filming and experiencing people’s stories.

Isaac received his BA in communications/electronic media, having studied in the Pacific Northwest, Chicago, and England. He has spent the past 20 years being refined and challenged through the arts, including mixed media painting, photography, and documentary filmmaking. His mixed-media fresco-secco paintings have been featured in galleries and private collections around the country, and his work can also be seen in the Walter Foster book, Mixed Media Techniques.

Isaac resides with his wife and children in Southern California, continuing to explore new and exciting ways of telling stories through art, design, and film.  Other interests include: theology, anthropology, archaeology, documentary film, and material science.

Majestic Missions

More than twenty missions stretch from San Diego to Sonoma, reminding us of our rich Spanish and Mexican heritage. These historical Missions of California were fascinating to the early artists.  By the 1890s the missions had been abandoned and were in disrepair.  However, the artists saw in them an abundance of beauty and were drawn to their romantic past.  The paintings drew attention to these historical landmarks and thus began the efforts to preserve and restore them.  These important paintings are a testament to the powerful influence that art can have on preserving the past, increasing awareness and instigating change. Artists today continue to find inspiration in the missions and their glorious gardens.  Majestic Missions features past and present paintings of California missions as well as works of nature by the Early California Impressionists.  Join us in celebrating the city-wide event Art & Nature sponsored by the Laguna Art Museum.
