The Signature Gallery

Manuel Avendano’s oil paintings will SIZZLE in new show “Flamenco Pasión” at The Signature Gallery on November 3rd.

A self-taught artist, Avendano masterfully uses loose brush strokes and dramatic lighting to highlight the energy and gracefulness of the human figure. His paintings mesmerize all who view them and make one wonder how Avendano creates his subjects to look sultry and yet demure.

His collection features a strong Hispanic influence inspired by both large and small cities across Mexico. His most recognized and acclaimed subject matter, and the highlight of this ArtWalk’s show, is the flamenco dancers. He captures them perfectly, at the height of their performance, and at their most passionate. Additional fierce subjects include women in sombreros, musicians, and tango dancers.

Avendano’s talents earned him the honor of being hired to paint the portraits of the last two presidents of Mexico, President Vicente Fox and President Felipe Calderón.

His newest collection is a must-see this ArtWalk. Call (949) 376-4244 to RSVP to “Flamenco Pasión” and join The Signature Gallery, on 220 Forest Avenue, Laguna Beach, on Thursday, November 3rd, from 6pm-9pm. Also enjoy a live band and complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

Artists Republic

Artists Republic is pleased to showcase Softer World, a solo exhibition by Laura Berger.

Laura Berger is a full time artist working mainly in acrylic and gouache, creating works that focus on the connections of humans to each other, ourselves and the world.  Based in Chicago, Laura is extremely successful and exhibits her work worldwide.  Laura’s paintings are whimsical and light hearted, following her characters on their adventures in their colorful, calm worlds.

In her upcoming solo show Softer World, Laura is focusing on creating an escape from the violence happening around us; “Painting positive possibilities rather than focusing on darkness not only serves as a way to see through negativity or fear, but also has become very therapeutic as a daily practice for me. It helps to reinforce a sense of calm and to physically envision a peaceful world where we’re all honoring our connectedness and just hanging out together in a place of total ease.”  Laura has created a body of work that truly makes the viewer feel good; successfully creating an escape from the negativity of the world.  Her works are a direct reflection of Laura’s love of travel, adventure and curiosity.

Bold Beginnings: Laguna’s Art & Nature Roots

November 3rd – 30th

Bold Beginnings: Laguna’s Art & Nature Roots showcases original paintings by the founding artists of the Laguna Art Colony. These historical paintings reveal a deep reverence of nature. Their work evokes a sense of peace and tranquility in which they combine art and nature reminding us to preserve this awe inspiring land. They stand as a testament to the ageless beauty of the community as it was a century ago. Laguna provided artists the opportunity to paint sublime beauty in a perfect climate year-round. These brave individualists attracted artists from around the globe leading to the establishment of the art colony. Their comradery and vision laid the groundwork for the galleries, museum and festivals that attract millions of visitors each year. This exhibition starts with some of the earliest artists in California in the 1890’s and features some of today’s artists who continue to paint in the tradition of outdoor painting. Featured historical artists; William Wendt, Anna Hills, Edgar Payne, and more. Contemporary artists Gregory Hull, Kevin Macpherson and John Cosby.
