Laguna Dance Festival Performances at Dawson Cole Fine Art

Join us for two dynamic dance performances presented by Laguna Dance Festival at Dawson Cole Fine Art during First Thursdays Art Walk!

Thursday, May 4, 2017

Free performances at 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm

Specially created for the elegant gallery, the two dynamic performances include “Gone” a trio of dancers choreographed by the internationally acclaimed Dwight Rhoden, of Complexions Contemporary Ballet, and a premiere duet inspired by the grace and sophistication of the Dawson Cole Gallery space. Dancers hail from the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance, where Laguna Dance Festival founder and artistic director, Jodie Gates, is director and vice dean.

“These talented young dancers, who are already enjoying commercial success in Los Angeles, are among the most creative contemporary performers coming to the modern stage,” says Jodie Gates, Founder/Artistic Director, Laguna Dance Festival.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with the Laguna Dance Festival once again and share the great talent of the dancers with the Orange County community to enjoy” says Ariane MacDonald, Principal, Dawson Cole Fine Art.

Gentle Waters, John Cosby – oil on linen, 20 x 24 inches

The Redfern Gallery

Art Walk Events

John Cosby’s fresh, energetic paintings bring us an intimate, personal view of Pacific Coast. At once we are at the water’s edge soaking in the warmth of the sun, surrounded by an array of colors. The scenes are infused with intricate brushwork and glistening light often depicting people at play along the water’s edge. Much like the artist himself his paintings are happy and optimistic. There is a sense of lightheartedness, freedom and joy in each delightful painting.

Las Laguna Gallery

May Exhibition: Unique Abstractions
Gallery Reception: Thursday May 6 6:30-10 p.m.

Las Laguna Gallery presents: Unique Abstractions
A solo group exhibition

Abstract art, primarily strips away the narrative, often requires active problem-solving, and in many ways ignores the real-life, expected visuals. With abstract painting, elements are sometimes included not as visual facsimiles of objects, but as references or signs to how we can conceptualize objects.

In recounting the world they see, this collection of artists not only dismantle many of the elements of visual processing by removing perspective and universal depictions, they also abolish some of the premises on which some of our processing is based.

Viewers often look an abstract painting for links between line segments, for recognizable contours, shapes and/or objects; but in this set of works, viewers may find that their efforts are thwarted.

Selected from hundreds of submissions this unique exhibition features stunning abstract works in a variety of different mediums

Artists include: Beth Birnbaum, Erica Berent, Hufreesh Chopra, David Craven, Leah Shane Dixon, Marianne Eichenbaum, Linda Frueh, Mary Joan Hinson, Valerie Hollstein, Stephanie Holznecht, Terry Hufft, Reenie McMains, My Mathematical Mind, Mauricio Navarro, Kelsey Michelle Wright.

Las Laguna Gallery is located in Laguna Village on Coast Highway. This artist alcove features art galleries, shops, a restaurant, breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and live music most nights.

[seven-degrees]

Artist Isabella Longi will hold her debut photography exhibition, entitled Solitude, between May 4 and 31 at [seven-degrees] – which just happens to be the site where her father, sculptor Louis Longi, served as the debut artist 16 years ago, and where she spent many a happy day during her early years.

“My sculptures were the debut art exhibition at [seven-degrees] when they first opened. Isabella was just born and we were living in Studio 1 for the first year the facility was opened,” Louis Longi says.

Isabella Longi’s photographs capture immense peace and solitude

All of Isabella’s photos are originals, adding to their value.
