Steve Bernstein is the Cove Gallery featured “Artist of the Month” for June 2017
Steve Bernstein is one of the newer permanent artists at Cove Gallery, joining the member-owned gallery in September 2016. Steve is the first digital artist to show work at Cove Gallery, with his photography-based work representing recognition of a new and fast-growing discipline.
“The wonderful diversity of artists and art at Cove Gallery is what sets the gallery apart from other galleries and what first attracted me to the Cove,” says Steve. “From landscapes to abstract work and watercolors, you don’t get such a wide range of art very often.”
Steve’s art is all about delighting the eyes and stimulating the soul. “I feel I have succeeded if I create art that people want in their homes and in their lives every day,” says Steve.
Steve has had an active 2017 so far. With friend and colleague, world-renowned marine biologist Dr Edie Widder, Steve exhibited Illuminating the Deep for three months at the Lighthouse ArtCenter in Tequesta, Florida. A collaboration between Steve and Edie, Illuminating the Deep is an exciting exhibition about the mysteries of the deep and the wonderful and bizarre creatures that inhabit the planet’s last frontier, including the Giant Squid. Illuminating the Deep has already had successful seasons at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California, Vancouver Aquarium in Canada and the Elliott Museum in Stuart, Florida. You can see more about Illuminating the Deep at www.facebook.com/IlluminatingTheDeep.
Besides exhibiting at Cove Gallery, Steve’s work resides in private collections in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, as well as the offices of the Secretary of State, Florida, and the Official Residence of the New Zealand Consul-General, Los Angeles.

Las Laguna Gallery
monochrome – A Group Exhibition
June 1 to June 30, 2017
Artist Reception: Thursday March 2 from 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Las Laguna Gallery is pleased to present our newest show titled: monochrome
Please join us Thursday June 1 from 6:30pm to 9:30pm for Las Laguna Galleries – monochrome exhibition
The term monochrome describes paintings, drawings, design, or photographs in one color or values of one color.
For an image, the term monochrome is usually taken to mean the same as black and white or, more likely, grayscale, but may also be used to refer to other combinations containing only tones of a single color, such as pink-and-white or pink-and-black.
For this exhibition Las Laguna Gallery challenged artists to explore not only the range of tones of black and white, but also explore the range of a single color. The resulting exhibition provides viewers with insight into tonality and texture.
Works in this exhibition include, Digital Art, Drawings, Encaustic, Fiber Art, Graphite, Mixed Media, New Media, and Oil.
The Signature Gallery
This ArtWalk, you are invited to celebrate Cara Pabst Moran’s “Painting Sunshine” show on Thursday, June 1, from 6pm – 9pm at The Signature Gallery, on 220 Forest Avenue, in Laguna Beach.
Meet Cara, a contemporary impressionist, and see her latest collection of signature vibrant, thick-textured oil paintings that are bursting with life and energy.
In her words, “I love to play with colors, and I draw my inspirations from graphic delectables intermixed with nature. Nature brings me such depth of hope and joy. I want to speak this joy in my paintings.” And speak she does, with bright and expressive visions of nature that dance across the canvas. Thick layers of reflective paint also add a glow and shimmer to the pieces that change with the time of day!
As the daughter of successful artist, Charles H. Pabst, Cara grew up watching, learning, and fine-tuning her inherited talent. Her love for the way form and color can speak drew her to the impasto technique, using the palette knife to create quick impressions that captured the fleeting beauty of the natural world.
Join The Signature Gallery, on Thursday June 1, from 6pm – 9pm, to discover paintings of luscious flowers, crashing waves, fresh clouds, bursting meadows, and brilliant sunsets, popping with wonder, sweet scents, and bright songs. Meet Cara, get your books signed, and enjoy a live band and refreshments.
