Dawson Cole Fine Art

Chuck Close: Face to Face

Celebrate Art Walk at Dawson Cole Fine Art and view the opening exhibit Chuck Close: Face to Face. Always innovative, Chuck Close is unafraid to experiment with both subject and medium. He is best known for his large-scale photorealist portraits composed of tiny airbrush bursts, thumbprints, or looping multi-color brushstrokes. Close implements a variety of mediums to repeatedly capture his personality and that of others in self-portraits and portraits. His subjects are usually his family and friends, including artists such as Richard Serra, Cindy Sherman, Alex Katz, Roy Lichtenstein, and Robert Rauschenberg. Close’s work forces the viewer to pay attention to not only the forms themselves, but also their very process of creation.

July 6 to July 26, 2019

Please join us Saturday July 6, from 5:30pm to 9:30pm for the artist reception which will include art, live music and more. Exhibition runs the entire month of July.

True abstract art not only utilizes flexibility and freedom; it also employs bold uses of color, line, pattern, form, process and composition.

Abstract art does not deliver a precise depiction of realism, but rather suggests forms and structures that suggest some essential nature of a subject. Abstract artists often use patterns or colors to incite emotion, a recollection, or relate to some sort of sensory input that you may have experienced previously.

This exhibition will run the entire month of July at Las Laguna Gallery in Laguna Beach.

Artists include: Lillian Abel, Evalynn Alu, Vera Arutyunyan, Alexis Avlamis, Brandin Baron, Cheryl Bodkin-Waters, Maria Borrelli, Neal Call, Judy Carroll, Christopher Conroe, Judith D’Agostino, Maryann Dellarocco, Terri Deskins, Lauren Dickinson, Julia Fletcher, James Fraser, Diana Ghoukassian, Stephanie Holznecht, Jane Kamentser, Everett Kane, Lydia Kinney, Francine Kohn, Gillian Loop, Jennifer McCarthy, Marcee Musgrove, Mercedes Nunez, Patsee Ober, Nancy Okerman, Renee Ortiz, Maria Pazos, Gwynne Stoddart, Leslie Tejada, and Artie Van Why.
