Aqueous (water soluble media)
August 1 to August 30, 2019
Please join us Thursday August 30, 2019 from 5:30pm to 9:30pm for the artist reception which will include art, live music and more. Exhibition runs the entire month of August.
There are several different types of media an artist can choose to express their visions. For this exhibition, Las Laguna challenged artists working in water soluble media: watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache ink, and egg tempera to show their work. Water soluble media are paints are made of pigments suspended in a water-based solution. They possess nice color saturation, and dry quite quickly. While the techniques for using watercolor are rather straightforward in theory, they are tricky to master. It takes a extraordinary talent and plenty of practice. It is harder to cover a mistake.
Works selected include Traditional landscapes, Local views, Abstracts, Wildlife, Pets, Figure studies, Seascapes, harbors, and beach scenes, Impressionistic landscapes or more.
Artists include: Marc Aronson, Allison Bryant, Lauren Buchness, Tonya Burdine, Joanne Cali, Cody TheCreative, Vickie Deneroff, John DuVal, Leslie Getz, Kayla Janes, Grace Kim, Katherine Jinhee Kim, Debbie Lotito, Donald Matheson, Jim Matthew, Meridith McNeal, Teri Ann Moyer, Maria Pazos, Michelle Peterlin, Alayne Sahar, Ruth Petersen Shorer, Barbara Simonson, Christine So, Erin Stein, Michael Tang, Amelia Weggemann, Kim Winberry, Bob Wynne.
Quickly becoming one of the premier contemporary and fine art galleries in Laguna Beach, California; Las Laguna Gallery is dedicated to the exploration and engagement of contemporary and fine art visual culture – regionally, nationally and internationally; through unique collaborations between artists, students and the community.
Las Laguna Gallery is located on Pacific Coast Highway in Laguna Village. Laguna Village is an artist alcove situated on the cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. JOURNEY FROM LANDFILL TO WALL ART
Texture, metallic, acrylics, resin, gel medium and much TLC is what goes into the transformation from landfill to wall art in each recycled surfboard.
Surfboards epitomize coastal California and deserve to be on the list of American icons. These boards are no longer “sea worthy” and have cracks and dings. What is more honoring than to make them a thing of beauty again? Re-purposed as wall art and saved from landfill. To think about the many journeys each board has taken is very parallel to our lives art is the next journey.
As a drawing artist – I use my soft carving technique to define the line work. This is one of the textural aspects of my style. The resin marbling technique focuses on the reflections of the metallic blend of paints. Light plays a key role in the visual appreciation by casting shadows in the textures and reflections from the metallic materials – creating an illusion of movement in both.
