ART WALK NEWS – APRIL 2019

The art season in Laguna Beach flourishes year round with First Thursdays Art Walk. This educational monthly art event, held on the first Thursday of every month from 6 – 9pm, celebrates the diverse cultural art scene of Laguna Beach and is free to the public. Member galleries and sponsors invite you to visit during art walk and enjoy their exhibitions, entertainment and special events. 

TROLLEY SERVICE 

Free trolley service for art walk starts at 6:30 pm and ends at 9:30 pm. Trolleys begin at the Laguna Art Museum (north) and Bluebird Canyon Road (south). The trolley route runs as far north as Jasmine Street, up Laguna Canyon Road as far as Canyon Acres, and south to Diamond Street. Map

PARKING

Metered parking is available along Coast Hwy. and a few blocks inland on either side of the street and is free after 7:00 pm. If you prefer, you may park in the residential area located 2-3 blocks inland from Coast Hwy.

Laguna Art Museum

Now on view at Laguna Art Museum: Self-Help Graphics, 1983-1991 highlights a selection of prints from the East LA printmaking workshop and arts center that emerged from the Chicano movement of the 1960s; Titi, Nunu, and Klembolo: Helena Modjeska’s Fairy Tale Book reveals a handwritten manuscript with ink-and-watercolor illustrations; and Centennial Gifts: Recent Additions to the Permanent Collection features outstanding donations of art in recognition of the museum’s centenary.

TIM GENET

Native Southern California artist Tim Genet originally painted large landscapes in oils with a palette knife.  Turning to plein air painting year’s back, he painted not only his native California but took his paints traveling across the United States and to Europe, Central/ South America, the Caribbean, Mexico, and the South Pacific.  
 
Currently, along with his landscape paintings, Tim is working in oil and mixed media painting Expressive Figurative and abstract pieces.  Working in two styles helps to keep his work fresh as well as distinctive.

WAKING WORLDS: VISUAL STORYTELLING WITH OBSIDIAN ENTERTAINMENT

Laguna College of Art and Design’s (LCAD) BFA program in Game Art is proud to present, Waking Worlds: Visual Storytelling with Obsidian Entertainment, an exhibition showcasing the visual stories of Irvine-based video game developer, Obsidian Entertainment.

In recognition and celebration of Obsidian Entertainment’s fifteen years of creating video games that have captured the hearts and imaginations of fans worldwide, this exhibition features work by Obsidian Entertainment’s finest creatives alongside those created by the studio’s talented fans. Showcased are works from the unreleased space role-playing game, The Outer Worlds, works from the Obsidian Entertainment’s original franchise Pillars of Eternity, as well as a visual history of the studio’s many achievements.

LGOCA is Celebrating our third consecutive year of collaboration with the Ritz Carlton, Laguna Niguel! 

On April 2 – April 30th the Ritz will display 5 Giant 8 Foot Easter Eggs hand painted by different artists.  Three of the 5 eggs are created by LGOCA artists.  They will be on the lawns outside the front entrance of the Resort and photo op ready!!

Redfern Gallery

Discovering the Past

Exhibiting early California Impressionists many of whom were the original founders of the Laguna Beach art colony 100 years ago.  Featuring two recently rediscovered beach scenes by William A. Griffith dated 1922 of Rockpile beach near Griffith’s home on Cliff Drive.  Also, on view are several renowned artists; Granville Redmond, Benjamin C. Brown, Maurice Braun, Edgar Payne and more.  The Redfern Gallery specializes in California Impressionism. Included alongside the early artists are important artists of today including; Terry DeLapp, Kevin Macpherson and Gregory Hull.
